Patients Worried About Future Of Medical Marijuana

In his most forceful response yet to a threatened crackdown on marijuana by federal prosecutors Governor Charlie Baker encouraged the US attorney in Boston to instead concentrate on opioids

The amendment was attached to an appropriations bill and barred the DOJ from spending funds to interfere with the implementation of medical marijuana laws.

Last May, Sessions called for a budget that did not include the amendment. Rohrabacher-Farr (now known as Rohrabacher-Blumenauer, in honor of Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., who co-sponsored the amendment) is set to expire on January 19, 2018, if it is not renewed.

He also explained the importance of medical marijuana to those who have come to rely on it.

"Trump needs to realize that a lot of his supporters are pro-cannabis and it would be extremely hurtful to them if he allowed Sessions to move forward with this", said Damara Kelso, a Trump voter who runs Sugar Shack Farms, a marijuana grower in Eugene, Oregon. Polis has offered the McClintock/Polis amendment several times throughout the years.

"I can not. provide assurances that certain categories of participants in the state-level marijuana trade will be immune from federal prosecution", Lelling said on Monday.

Cody Hiland, the US attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, said in a statement that the decision by Sessions "underscores his continued commitment to entrust prosecutorial discretion to the USA attorneys throughout the country". Eastern Washington, however, falls under interim U.S. Attorney Joseph Harrington, whose office has directed media inquiries to the DOJ's national press office. "I think really (the ideal candidate) is someone who has an understanding of some of the federal issues the commission could be dealing with and. respond in the event that we need to be responsive to something". Sessions, the first US senator to officially endorse Trump during his 2016 campaign, was nominated by the president for the AG position shortly after the election.

Eight states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational marijuana, and dozens of states have approved medical cannabis. Hutchinson said Sessions "should look at where President Trump has been" on the subject.

"My personal philosophy as a prosecutor is that we will enforce federal law", Herdman said.

Stephen Hudak, a FinCEN spokesman, said in a statement that the agency's guidance "remains in place", despite the Justice Department's actions.

"Sessions said he's enforcing federal law, simply directing all U.S. Attorneys to use previously established prosecutorial principles that provide them all the necessary tools to disrupt criminal organizations, tackle the growing drug crisis, and thwart violent crime across our country", Sessions said in a statement.

The governor had a message Tuesday morning for Lelling about enforcement of federal marijuana law: Pot is not the biggest problem and drugs like fentanyl deserve more attention from the feds. "I do not want Arkansas to become a recreational use state".

Jesse Richardson, a WVU law professor, said the West Virginia medical marijuana industry is at risk, even through state marijuana laws are still protected by the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment.

Also yesterday, Bennett said the exit of a major debit card payment processor from the MA medical marijuana industry could set up a safety risk for dispensaries that are now forced to only accept cash.
